When the Rev. David W. Beaubien of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church gives his sermon at Sunday’s Mass, he will dedicate it to the young people killed in a car crash last weekend in Olney.
The pastor said families of three of the passengers — 18-year-old Haeley N. McGuire of Derwood, 20-year-old John Hoover of Derwood and 19-year-old Charles Nardella of Gaithersburg — are or were parishioners of the Derwood church.

Nardella suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the 2007 Toyota Corolla that crashed as it was traveling east on Olney-Laytonsville Road (Md. 108) after 3 a.m. Sunday, 20-year-old Kevin Coffay of Rockville, was taken to the hospital and released.
A Montgomery County Circuit Court judge on Monday issued a $500,000 bail for Coffay. As of late Tuesday morning, he still was at the Montgomery County Detention Center in Rockville.
In his sermon, Beaubien will refer to the Bible verse where Jesus says to his disciples, “I am going to the Father.”
“In Jesus and by following him, we too are on a journey to the Father,” his sermon reads. “This will be the beginning of our consolation.”
Grief and consolation are in the forefront these days.
“We have to be able to offer the word of consolation and hope to all who have been affected, and that’s what we’re about,” he said.
“We do have a lot of young families,” he added. “Every tragedy like this is felt very keenly.”
Beaubien said several Col. Zadok Magruder students walked into the chapel at St. Francis on Monday morning.
Four of the students in the car were alumni of Magruder; McGuire was a senior at the school.
Family and members of the community are reeling from news of the crash.
Alexa Datt, Spencer’s sister, would not comment on specifics of the accident but did offer some details about who Spencer was.
