Alexander Wang Biography
Alexander Wang is an American fashion designer best known for his urban designs. He has designed a Fall collection in 2008 using black as the predominant color, followed by his Spring 2009 collection with bright colors like orange and dusty purple.
He has been working with Balenciaga for a while but, on July 31, 2015, it was announced that Wang would leave the company.

He was born in San Francisco to Chinese parents originally from Taiwan . His mother is Yin Wang whereas his father is unknown. Along with his, he has one brother called Dennis.

He attended a summer design program at Central Saint Martins when he was 15 years old. He attended the Harker School for elementary school.
For 9th grade, he was in the boarding school Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, CA. He studied at the Drew School in San Francisco for high school and finally completed school with the Parsons School of Design at age 18.
After completing his studies at Parsons, he decided to work toward launching his own fashion label. His first line was a knitwear collection. After releasing a complete women-to-wear on the New York Catwalk, he collected the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2008.
In addition to that, he also got a $20,000 award to expand her business. He launched his handbag collection that same year. In 2009, women’s T by him was launched, followed by Men’s T by Alexander Wang in 2010.
Also in 2009, he won the CFDA Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year Award and the Swiss Textiles Award garnering him recognition from his peers.His lines are now stocked globally in more than 700 stores and other venues; including, luxury department stores.
He won the Swarovski Designer of the Year Award again in 2010 but this time in the Accessory category. He was acknowledged by GQ US as the Menswear Designer of The Year as well as winning the CFDA’ s Best Accessory Designer award, all in 2011.
Alexander garnered the Fashion Star awarded by Fashion Group International in 2013, October. Wang opened his first flagship store in SoHo, Lower Manhattan, New York on the 17th of February 2011. On the 30th of November 2012, he was named Creative Director at Balenciaga.
At Balenciaga, he oversaw the women’s and men’s ready-to-wear accessory lines. He stayed with Balenciaga for two years until Kering issued a press release announcing that Wang will leave Balenciaga by mutual consent on the 31st of July 2015. An announcement was made on the 13th of April 2014, stating that he would be the next designer to create a collection for the fashion retailer H&M.
The collection featured pieces for both men and women, along with a selection of his famed accessories. In 2016, Wang became the CEO and chairman of the Wang brand, succeeding his mother, Ying Wang, and sister-in-law, Aimee Wang. Recently, in 2017, he was featured by HypeBeast in their list of top 100 influencers in the industry.
Alexander Wang Controversies
A lawsuit was filed against him by the New York Post for running a Sweatshop in Chinatown, Manhattan. Some of his workers have complained about the labor conditions she provides.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, the plaintiffs involved in the suit are asking for $50 million per charge, adding up to $450 million for the 9 charges in total. The lawsuit was dismissed by the New York Federal Court Judge Harold Baer.
