Ben McKenzie born Benjamin McKenzie Schenkkan on September 12, 1978, in Austin, Texas, United States, is an American actor, writer, and director.
He is famously known as Ryan Atwood in the television series The O.C. and as Ben Sherman in Southland. Ben was cast in the films Junebug and 88 Minutes.
He had his first starring role in a feature film in the 2008 indie release Johnny Got His Gun. McKenzie has since 2014, been starring as James Gordon in the television series Gotham, for which he also wrote and directed episodes.

McKenzie worked in part-time jobs from 2001 to 2003, and sought acting work in New York and Los Angeles before being cast as Ryan Atwood in The O.C. Fox on August 5, 2003, premiered the television series, about affluent teenagers with stormy personal lives in Orange County, California.
With time the show became an overnight success and made McKenzie famous. Through his performance in The O.C. he earned a’Choice Breakout TV Star ,Male and ‘Choice TV Chemistry’ nominations in the Teen Choice Awards and ‘Choice TV Actor – Drama/Action Adventure’ and ‘Choice TV Actor: Drama” wins.
Throughout the show’s run, McKenzie reportedly earned between about $15,000 and $25,000 per episode.

His role on the O.C. was the first time McKenzie played what The New York Times later described as the ‘quiet, guarded leading man’ role he would repeatedly portray. McKenzie appeared in magazines including People, In Touch Weekly and Us Weekly, as a result of the show’s success.
In Independent Online’s “100 Sexiest Men Alive” he was ranked No. 5 and twice appeared on Teen People magazine’s annual list of ’25 Sexiest Stars under 25.’
He was also voted one of InStyle’s ’10 Hottest Bachelors of Summer’ in July 2005. During its third and fourth seasons, the O.C. dropped in ratings dramatically and ended in early 2007.
McKenzie made his feature film debut in Junebug alongside Amy Adams and Embeth Davidtz, while appearing in The O.C. Junebug was nominated for ‘Best International Film and ‘Outstanding Ensemble Acting’ in the Amanda Awards and won the Sarasota Film Festival award for ‘Outstanding Ensemble Acting’.

The film also received high praise at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.McKenzie, according to Production Weekly, was set to star in the thriller Snakes on a Plane, formerly known as Pacific Air 121, but later dropped out to film 88 Minutes, which starred Al Pacino.
In the year 2008, he earned critical acclaim for his solo performance in the “live on stage, on film” version of Dalton Trumbo’s 1939 novel Johnny Got His Gun, his first starring role in a feature film. He stars as Joe Bonham, a role previously played by James Cagney, Jeff Daniels, and Timothy Bottoms. The movie premiered at the Paramount Theater in Austin, McKenzie’s hometown, while he was filming the pilot for Southland.
He appeared in the short movie The Eight Percent, in 2009, a movie that won the Delta Air Lines Fly-in Movie Contest and entered as an official selection on the Tribeca Film Festival’s Short film category.

He played the role of Ben Sherman a rookie police officer on the NBC drama Southland, which premiered on April 9, 2009. While in production on its second season, the show was canceled. For the seven episodes that had been produced, TNT bought the rights for the show and showed it. The show was later renewed. The show was however,once again cancelled after the fifth season.

Ben later returned to Fox in the Batman prequel television show Gotham, which premiered on September 22, 2014. In the series, he plays the role of James Gordon as a young detective new to Gotham City. He made his directorial debut in the same series, with the season 3 episode ‘These Delicate and Dark Obsessions’. Ben also directed ‘ One of My Three Soups” and write “The Demon’s Head” from the fourth season. He shot a real-time action thriller in Birmingham Alabama Live! in early summer 2018, with the film slated for release in 2019.

Morena Baccarin and Ben McKenzie Coming to Silicon Valley Comic Con 2019.

Looks like Steve Wozniak is giving comic fans another reason to plan for Silicon Valley Comic Con with the latest guest announcement. It has been confirmed that Morena Baccarin and Ben McKenzie will be guests for the 2019 event.
Morena Baccarin is an actress best known for her role as Inara Serra in Firefly and Vanessa in the Deadpool films. Her other notable role are Black Canary in Justice League Unlimited and Dr. Leslie Thompkins on Gotham.
Ben McKenzie is an actor best known for his role as James Gordon on Gotham. He had also previously voiced Bruce Wayne / Batman in the animated adaptation of Batman: Year One (with the role of James Gordon voiced by Bryan Cranston).
Baccarin and McKenzie are married while also having worked together previously on The OC back in the early 2000’s.
At the moment, they will be joining Jason Momoa from Aquaman and Game of Thrones. Fans could expect more big announcements in the coming months.
