Chris Carmack (James Christopher Carmack) is an American actor, singer and former fashion model, who shot to fame for his roles in two popular television shows—the 2003 teen drama series The O.C., and the 2012 country music drama Nashville.

Carmack has also appeared in several films, including The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations, Into the Blue 2: The Reef, Love Wrecked, Beauty & the Briefcase and Alpha and Omega. Carmack currently plays Dr. Atticus Lincoln on the medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy.

He grew up in Derwood, Maryland and has two siblings, a brother and sister. When he was young, he enjoyed participating in all types of sports including; baseball, basketball, football, and wrestling. He was also a longtime counselor at Seneca Creek Day Camp, known for singing the original “Rocko the Lazy Moth” and “Ode to Salpino” among other favorites at Magruder High School, later, his attention turned to theatre and he began working on three productions per year, on-stage and off, in addition to competing in numerous drama festivals.

Carmack attended New York University after graduation and graduated from the Tisch School. He left NYU after being discovered by the modeling scout John Yannella and decided to go to the profession. Bruce Weber’s looks were exactly what he wanted for Abercrombie & Fitch. He has also worked on other catalogs and editorials for; Lord and Taylor, Macy’s, Target, Who. A.U, Elle France, Nautica, Guess? and Cosmogirl.

Carmack decided to move to Los Angeles after two years in New York City and immerse himself into acting. He is best known to global audiences as Luke during the first season of the O.C., but he did not continue because producers were unable to guarantee him airtime in the next year. In 2005, Carmack became a model for the limited upscale label Abercrombie & Fitch, Ezra Fitch.

In 2006, Carmack starred with Amanda Bynes and Jonathan Bennett in the film Lovewrecked and decided to perfect his performing skills in the New York and London theatres.

From 16 March to 21 May 2006, Carmack starred in Entertaining Mr ‘s off-road production. Laura Pels Theater Sloane. The play, directed by Scott Ellis, also featured Alec Baldwin and Jan Maxwell, nominees of the Tony Award.

In 2006, Carmack debuted his London stage in a rare revival of Tennessee Williams ‘ Summer and Smoke, a 55-year-old performance in London. Carmack starred opposite Rosamund Pike and was directed by the former artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Adrian Noble. The Apollo Theater was performed from 21 October to 25 November 2006 and failed to complete its planned course.

In the TV show Desperate Housewives, Carmack portrayed Susan Delfino ‘s cousin Tim for one episode.

Carmack portrayed Sam Reide, the main character of the film The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations, the third film in The Butterfly Effect film franchise, released in theaters in January 2009. He also made his first voice role in Alpha and Omega, which was released in theaters in September 17, 2010, and reprised his role as Garth in Alpha and Omega 2: A Howl-iday Adventure, being one of the few actors from the original to appear in at least one sequel.

In 2013 Carmack was cast as Scarlett and Gunnar ‘s neighbor Will in the ABC drama series Nashville, a sexy and charming country singer and guitarist. Initially, Carmack ‘s character appeared to be a womanizer and a potential threat to Scarlett’s relationship with Gunnar, but it was revealed that the character was gay and that he was trying to protect his image as a country music heterosexual. In the last six episodes of the season Carmack appeared and was promoted from a recurrent role to a regular season 2 series.
