Danielle Monaro Slimness
What does Monaro do to stay slim? Here are some of the questions that she had to answer to help us understand how she does it.
What’s your exercise routine?
I do mix martial arts twice a week with Tiger Schulmann’s Karate. I sprinkle in my own stuff in between — running or rollerblading, which I love — so I usually work out at least three times a week.
What’s in your fridge?
I could live on fruit! I love summer fruits in particular, like watermelon, peaches, and plums. Also, I have lots of grab-and-go snacks like cheese sticks and yogurt. And of course, plenty of bottled water — it’s just so much easier than anything else.
If you feel you’re gaining weight, how do you get back on track?
I cut out white carbs like rice, pasta, and bread. That works best and very fast for me. Also, fitness-wise, I’m very lucky in that my arms get back into shape very quickly. If I can tell my arms are looking good again, I’m more motivated because I feel like everything’s getting back to normal.
If you have to eat fast food, what do you get?
I love McDonald’s cheeseburgers and Nathan’s hot dogs and White Castle. If I’m going to really treat myself, I’ll go to White Castle — but that’s gotta be a very special occasion!
What’s your least healthy habit?
Salami sandwiches! I had thyroid cancer, and when I was having treatment, I stayed at my girlfriend’s house because I couldn’t be around my kids. She had some salami at her house, and I ate so much salami.
Now I keep salami in my house and have a little bit if I want a little something. That’s definitely not healthy. That, and probably all the chocolate I eat. I hate dark chocolate, and that’s the one that’s good for you. I’d rather have milk chocolate.
What do you do to relax?
I have to get up at 4 a.m. for work, so I don’t get a lot of sleep. So when I can take a nap and catch a few extra ZZZs, I’m the first person to try to do that. I also — and this is gonna sound crazy — but I love “The Vampire Diaries,” and I relax by taking my laptop into the bed, putting on my headphones, and catching up on the show. It just shuts out the rest of the world — it’s just me and my headphones.
What item of clothing (or accessory) will you NEVER get rid of?
My rings. I’m obsessed with rings. And my shoes! If I’m having a bad day, I just open my closet and visit my shoes, and it’ll make me happy. No matter whether you’ve lost or gained weight, no matter how big you are, your shoes are still going to fit. And a high heel always makes you feel sexy.
