Because of growing up on Manhattan’s West Side, Daphne was influenced early on by her teachers to enroll in a challenging high school. Despite her initial desire to attend the Fashion Industries High School, She was swayed to attend the Bronx High School of Science.
While there, Reid was highly involved, serving as senior class president and joining the Group Theater Workshop. Later, after her graduation, Daphne received a scholarship to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Eventually, She was named homecoming queen that made her become the first black woman at the school to attain the title. Later, Daphne went on to earn a degree in Bachelor of Arts in 1970.

She started her career as a radio presenter on the NBC Sitcom. At that time, her best-known role was replacing Janet Hubert-Whitten as’ Vivian Banks’ the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from 1993 to 1996.
However, before joining the radio show, Daphne had an acting role on the UPS sitcom Eve. Nevertheless, she also involved in bet sitcoms that let’s play together. In addition, Daphne served on the advisory board of the National Student Film Institute during the 1980s and 1990s.
