In making the announcement, the Audubon Society cited her as “a pioneer who inspired parents and schools to clean up using non-toxic products. She persuaded more than 200 institutions across the country to switch to green cleaning products and her work led directly to three’ green cleaning ‘ executive orders. Furthermore, Imus expressed concern about the chemicals used in commercial cleaning products. Too, she advocates the use of alternative cleaning products in her book Greening Your Cleaning, published in April 2007.
Greening Your Cleaning argues that chemicals such as ammonia are harmful and calls for ways to clean around the house that are “environmentally responsible.”Accordingly, on April 6, 2007, she appeared at the NBC Today Show to demonstrate the methods of cleaning discussed in her book. However, in the wake of the controversy surrounding the cancelation of the Imus in the morning show, a scheduled book tour was postponed.
