Jason Avant Biography

Jason Avant, born Jason Raye Avant, is a former American Football player. He used to play as a wide receiver. He played college football in Michigan. Later, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles in the 4th NFL Draft. He has also played for the Carolina Panthers and the Kansan City Chiefs.

Jason Avant was born to Jerry Avant and Claudette Patrick in Chicago, Illinois. Alongside him was his brother, Edwon Simmons, a former baseball player turned talent scout for a sports agency in Chicago. He is married to Stacy Avant. Together, the couple lives with their daughter Jala Aris Avant in Clementon, New Jersey.

Jason Avant Education | Early Career

Jason studied at the Carver Military School located in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating, he moved on to MacArthur High School in Decatur, IL. Here, he played in defense as a free safety, and in the offense as a wide receiver. After his senior season, he got named as a High School All-American as a free safety. In 2002, he played at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. After high school, he joined the University of Michigan where he played as a wide receiver. In his high school years, he set school records for receptions, receiving yards, touchdowns, and interceptions.

As a sophomore, he came out as the Wolverine’s number 2 receiver. As a junior, he was the second leading receiver. In his senior year, he led his team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. During his final two seasons, he was named as a candidate for the Fred Biletnikoff Award because he became the nation’s top receiver. After his senior season, he got an honorable mention and garnered the Bo Schembechler Award as Michigan’s most valuable player.

Jason Avant Professional Career

Philadelphia Eagles

In 2006, Jason joined the 2006 NFL Draft of the Philadelphia Eagles. They used a trade of the sixth-round draft pick and tackle of Artis Hicks to take Jason. In his rookie season, he played with the offense for some time. He produced his best results throughout the season. He upgraded his career-highs after the 2009 season with 41 receptions for 587 yards and 3 touchdowns. Soon after this, he was inducted to the U.S.A. Today All-Joe Team. On the 8th of March 2010, he signed a five-year contract with the Eagles. In the same year, he was given the Eagles’ Ed Block Courage Award for 2010. He left the Eagles on the 4th of March 2014 in a highly unanticipated move.

Carolina Panthers

Sometime after his release from The Eagles, he signed a 1-year deal with the Carolina Panthers of the 7th of April 2014. He spent a short amount of time with the Panthers leaving on the 18th of November the same year.

Kansas City Chiefs

A few days after leaving the Panthers, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on the 21st of November. This deal reunited him with Andy Reid, his former coach with the Eagles. In the next year, he renewed his contract with the Chiefs. This second year wasn’t as good as the others since he only recorded 15 catches for 119 yards for zero touchdowns.

After Sports Retirement

After retiring from sports in 2015, Jason looked for another way to entertain people. In 2017, he got his chance by launching a trampoline park called Launch Trampoline Park. Here he runs the place. The trampoline park makes sure families have a safe, fun place to enjoy time together. At the time, he has two locations of the park in New Jersey and is to open another in Delaware.
