John Seibel Biography

John Seibel is an American broadcaster. He is the former host of KDTKA’s afternoon drive show, Seibel, Starkey, and Miller in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 93.7.John is currently the Morning news anchor at WDTN,the NBC affiliate in Dayton,Ohio.

 

John graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Telecommunication at Arizona State University in 1997. He was the schools Outstanding Graduate. Siebel was also in the U.S Airforce as from January 1989 to September 1991.

He was a part of the Early Warning Missile Defense systems for NORAD at Falcon Air Force Station. He then served in the Hawaii Air National Guard from September 1991-May 1994 in a communications mobility unit. While in Hawaii, Seibel was also a television more uplink for Vision Accomplished.

John Seibel worked at ESPN for 9 years before he moved to Pittsburgh in January 2010. He was one of the more versatile commentators at the Worldwide Leader.

He anchored ESPNews as from October 2000 until he left in 2009. This role was accompanied by assuming many roles at ESPN Radio. In the summer of 2000, he was the weekend host for GameNight before he joined ESPN Radio full-time.

He hosted NFL on ESPN Radio, The Baseball Show, GameNight, The SportsBash, The Huddle with Mike Ditka, SportsNation, Football Tonight and Baseball Tonight for 7 years that he was in the Radio. He had joined ESPN from KIMO-TV located in Anchorage, Alaska.

Here, he was a sports director of the ABC affiliate for 3 years. He won the Alaska Broadcasters Association Goldie Award for Best Play-by-Play and Best Live Event all the 3 years.

John also won the Best Entertainment Program back in 2000. He was named the NSSA’s Sportscaster of the year back in 1997.

ESPN talent joins Channel 2 as morning anchor

Dayton’s Channel 2 NEWS has a new co-anchor.

WDTN-TV just hired John Seibel, a Dayton native, and Gulf War veteran, to join the 4:30 a.m. newscast on 2 NEWS and the 2 NEWS Today show from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Dayton’s CW.

Loyal 2 NEWS viewers will have to get used to a new personality, but Seibel’s background growing up in Englewood and attending Northmont High School may make him a familiar face for some as he returns to his roots.

“We are thrilled to have John join our news organization,” said Denise Eck, News Director of 2 NEWS. “He’s a dedicated journalist and will be an asset to our newsroom.”

Seibel spent almost 10 years with ESPN and most recently worked in Pittsburgh, where he helped launch an all-sports radio station.

“I’ve covered stories and experienced nearly every corner of the country, but I’m excited to be coming home,” said Seibel. “I look forward to beginning each morning with the viewers of 2 NEWS and I’m excited to join the 2 NEWS, Today team.”

Seibel will work alongside Holly Samuels and Meteorologist Jamie Jarosik.
