Major Lazer Career
The group was originally made of Diplo and Switch. Their first album was Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do. The album was released in June 16th, 2009 on Downtown Records.
Afterwards it was recorded in Jamaica with artists such as Santigold, Vybz Kartel, Ward 21 Busy Signal, Mr. Vegas and T.O.K contributing to it. Moreover, it had some production from Afro Jack and Crookers.
In the album, its first single was Hold The Line video directed by Erick Wareheim was nominated for MTV Video Award for the Break Through Video category. June 2009 the group was featured on The Fader.
The group live shows were done by hype man before he left to go to pursue religion in 2012.
The duo began to work with Snoop Dog to produce some tracks and along the way came his alter ego Snoop Lion. Switch then left due to creative differences as explained by Diplo and was later replaced by DJ/Producers Jillionaire and Walshy Fire and also Boaz van de Beatz an artist from Mad Decent.
2013-2016
September 2012 the group announced its upcoming album Free the Universe that would be released on Mad Decent on 12 March 2013.
They also produced Rita Oras Debut Album Ora.
8th February 2015 during a Grammy Award Ceremony Diplo revealed details of Major Lazers third album and its incorporation with artists such as Ariana Grande, Ellie Goulding, and PushaT.with its title being Peace is The Mission. Its first single was with French Producer DJ Snake and Danish artist MO.
The song became number 4 on Billboard s 100 and no. 2 on UK charts. The second single was titled Powerful featuring English singer Ellie Goulding and Jamaican artist Tarrus Riley. The album was released and was number 12 on Billboard 200.
Walshy Fire announced that the group’s fourth album titled music is the weapon was to be released in 2016.
July 22nd, 2016 a track titled Cold Water featuring MO and Justin Bieber was released by Major Lazer. It was number 2 on Billboard 100. The group album was needed a few club songs to be complete.
