Marius was born to his father, the late Halsey Jose Payton, and mother the late Jenette Payton. Unfortunately parents divorced when he was only nine years old.
He says his parents’ divorce hit him the hardest, since he had never seen them quarreling before. “I never saw my parents fight at all. When they sat us down and told us, I was like, ‘What? I don’t understand.”
Marius said during an interview. His father died of cerebral brain hemorrhage in 1992 while his mother died in 2010.

Before joining WSMV4, Marius worked as an evening news anchor at CBS17 Raleigh in Goldsboro, North Carolina, United States.
Marius was also a sport anchor and reporter at ABC4 Salt Lake City in Greater Salt Lake City Area, for a period of 11 years. Some of his most memorable moments there was covering the NBA finals in 1997 and 1998, and covering Heber native Cael Sanderson complete his collegiate wrestling career undefeated.

It all started with sky-high blood pressure readings, despite Marius cycling 20 miles a day, eating healthy, and even becoming a vegetarian.
He had been experiencing severe headaches and even instances where he couldn’t pronounce certain words on the teleprompter.
His father had died of cerebral brain hemorrhage, and for this reason, the doctor ordered a brain scan. It is from the scan that the doctor was able to come to a clear conclusion that all was not well in Marius’ body.
He was sent to a neuro surgeon, and luckily he worked with a team of dedicated doctors, who were able to prevent the condition from worsening.
He was treated and he is now living a very healthy life.
