When Monica was in the university, she was active in several weather-related organizations and events. The paved her to to this profession and created opportunities for her.

Furthermore, she got her first position with KMID-TV Big 2 News, in 2010. It was an ABC affiliate that serves the Permian Basin area of Texas.

She stated that one of the reasons she chose to relocate to the station was because she had attended schools in the area, including Penn State University.
