Monica (singer) Full Names Monica Denise Brown is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and entrepreneur.

Born and raised in College Park, Georgia, she began performing as a child and became part of a traveling gospel choir at the age of ten. Furthermore, Monica rose to fame after she signed with Rowdy Records in 1993 and released her debut album, Miss Thang, two years later.

Monica has sold 5.3 million albums in the United States. As a result, she is recognized as one of the most successful urban R&B female vocalists to emerge in the mid to late 1990s.

Nevertheless, according to Billboard, she is the youngest recording act to ever have two consecutive chart-topping hits on the Billboard Top R&B Singles chart.

Similarly, the first artist to top the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart over the span of three consecutive decades (the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s).

Billboard listed Monica as number 24 on its list of the Top 50 R&B in 2010. Too, Hip Hop Artists of the past 25 years.

A four-time nominee, she won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group. These were with Vocals for “The Boy Is Mine” at the 41st awards ceremony.  Accordingly, Monica has been the recipient of one Billboard Music Award, one BET Award, and two BMI Pop Awards.

Monica (Singer) Career

In 1991, at the age of eleven,  music producer Dallas Austin discovered Monica at the Center Stage auditorium in Atlanta. She was performing Whitney Houston in 1986’s “Greatest Love of All”. 

Monica’s voice amazed  Dallas. Thus, he offered her a record deal with his Arista Records-distributed label Rowdy Records. Dallas also consulted rapper Queen Latifah to work as Monica’s first manager.

Films

After a label change to Clive Davis’s Arista Records, Monica’s mainstream success was boosted. Further, in 2000, Monica made her film debut in the third drama from MTV Films, Love Song, as Camille Livingston.

The film is about a young woman who is torn between the life her parents have planned for her. And also the world she experiences after meeting a musician from the wrong side of the tracks.

The film debut the song “What My Heart Says” with the promotion of her third album All Eyez on Me (2002). Later, the film was released on April 30, 2002. And in Felicity (2001) and American Dreams (2003) playing Mary Wells, singing “My Guy”.

Albums

After the Japan-wide release of All Eyez on Me, Monica was asked to reconstruct the record with a host of new producers. As a result, she re-entered recording studios to start work with songwriters Kanye West, Jazze Pha, Andre “mrDEYO” Deyo, Bam & Ryan, and Dupri. Thus, replacing executive producer Missy Elliott.

Towards the end of 2006, Monica released her next studio album The Makings of Me. Titled after Curtis Mayfield’s recording “The Makings of You”. It saw her particularly reuniting with producers Elliott, Dupri, and Bryan Michael Cox.

All of whom had previously contributed to After the Storm.
In 2011, Monica joined the debut season of NBC’s reality talent shows The Voice. There, he served as an adviser to musician coach Cee Lo Green. Thereafter, her seventh studio album, New Life, was released in April 2012.

Therefore, it marked her first release with RCA, following the disbandment of J Records in October 2011. However, reception for the album was generally mixed to average.

Monica released the ballad “Be Human” in December 2018. Thus introducing The Be Human Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by herself.

Again, the same month, she previewed music from her ninth studio album Chapter 38. where she appeared on the seventh season of the VH1 reality series T.I. & Tiny. The Family Hustle. In January 2019, she released “Commitment”, the first single on her own label, Mondeenise Music.

However, she is the only daughter of Marilyn Best. Marilyn is a Delta Air Lines customer service representative and former church singer, of African American descent. Additionally, Monica’s father M.C. Billy Arnold is of African American and Irish ancestry. He was a mechanic working for an Atlanta freight company.

Monica is Married To Shannon Brown, who is an American professional basketball player. Shannon attended Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois, was named Illinois Mr. Basketball in 2003.

Likewise, he played college basketball for Michigan State University. Later, the Cleveland Cavaliers outlined him with the 25th overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft.
Brown attended Proviso East High School in Maywood, where his teammates included fellow 2006 draftee Dee Brown. In 2003, he was named Illinois Mr. Basketball and a McDonald’s All-American.

 Rivals.com considered  Brown a five-star recruit. Therefore, they listed him as the No. 1 shooting guard. Similarly, he was listed as player number three in the nation in 2003.

Furthermore, Brown played college basketball for the Michigan State Spartans. He was second-team All-Big Ten as a junior and an All-Big Ten Defensive selection.

R&B singer Monica married Los Angeles Lakers guard Shannon Brown for a second time on Saturday. This time, with their friends and family present.

The couple first married secretly last November in a private ceremony at home. However, it was kept under wraps until January.

For their re-do, 30-year-old Monica — and Brown, 25, exchanged vows at Vibiana.  

Guests were Shannon Brown’s teammates Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher and New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony and his wife LaLa Vasquez. They were dressed in shades of blue in honor of the couple’s color theme blue and purple.

Following post-nuptials cocktails, everyone headed over to a lavish reception. Soon after, they dined on a three-course dinner at tables topped with hydrangeas and roses.

 Monica expressed her joy on Twitter before she became Mrs. Brown. “Today baby me and u gonna be us,” she wrote. “We officially become one!… Love u baby.”

Monica and Shannon Brown have three kids. They first met last summer when Shannon appeared in her music video for “Love All Over Me,” in which they got married.
