Birney went to Boston University, the School of Fine Arts for a long time. Subsequent to moving to New York City, he went to classes supported by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Reed Birney House of Cards

In three seasons of the House of Cards, he portrayed Rep. Donald Blythe. U.S. Rep. Francis Underwood of South Carolina starts out as a ruthless politician seeking revenge in this Netflix original production.
