Funeral Party Shade Rupe
He is the creator of the two volumes of Funeral Party in 1995 and 1997. He edited and designed the first volume along with Michael Rorro and Marlene Leach , while Volume Two is almost wholly edited by Rupe and defines itself as a “journal of sublime decadence and darkness,” and features the work of Trevor Brown, Ulli Lommel, Miguel Ángel Martín, Jack Ketchum, George Kuchar and Mike Kuchar, Milo Sacchi, and Jack Stevenson, among others. The cult film magazine Shock Cinema , in reviewing Volume Two, called Funeral Party “a beautiful work, loaded with artwork … much of which is sure to offend … and always pushing the envelope in an effort to shed light on the darker niches of human ecstasy.”
He was also the Programming Director for the 26th Annual Olympia Film Festival with guests ranging from “Nothing Lasts Forever” director Tom Schiller and “Holy Mountain” producer Robert Taicher to underground filmmakers Lisa Hammer and Dame Darcy.
Shade has made appearances on television several times, including on Bravo’s 100 Scariest Movie Moments and 30 Even Scarier Movie Moments and 13 Scariest Movie Moments to a winning ride on an episode of the popular Discovery Channel game show Cash Cab. He performed as background talent in 2013 in films ranging from Ryan Murphy’s The Normal Heart to John Cameron Mitchell’s Happyish starring Philip Seymour Hoffman.
