Tracy is a native of Sunnyvale, California, which is in the heart of Silicon Valley. The anchor grew up with cherry orchards in her backyard, farmed by a neighbor named Charlie who once told a very young Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak to “stop playing with gadgets and start mowing lawns.”
In fifth grade, Tracy watched a very rare anti-cyclonic tornado form over Sunnyvale. It was then she decided she wanted to be a meteorologist, and she stuck to her plan. Also, she loves all things science and calls herself the Queen of Winter – it’s her favorite season. Moreover, she loves skiing, ice skating, and taking her horse, Star, for walks in the snow.
Speaking of animals, Tracy also has a prairie dog named Herbie and a cat named Oliver Nacho. She loves animals and plans to someday retire on a farm where she can care for all kinds of animals.
Hinson also has a passion for macaroni and cheese. She runs a website called missmacncheese.com. Where she logs the macaroni dishes she eats and rates them on a scale from “Mactastic” (“pretty darn amazingly good”) to “Macky” (just “good”).
Tracy has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from San Jose State University and a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Mississippi State University and is a National Weather Association seal holder. Before moving to St. Louis, she worked at stations in Portland, Oregon; Salinas, California; and Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Station officials reported that along with manning the weather desk alongside weekend news anchor Kelly Jackson, Hinson will work as a general assignment reporter during the week. Hinson also drew double duty at her last posting in Portland, Ore. Before that, she worked in Salinas, Calif., and Grand Rapids, Mich.
She has a journalism degree from San Jose State University and a meteorology degree from Mississippi State University.

- Hinson has participated in many rodeos with her horse named “Star”. In 2011 she won the title “Miss Wine Country Rodeo 2011” and in 2012 she won the title “Miss California Rodeo Salinas”.
- She also has a pet black-tailed prairie dog. When she moved to Michigan, she thought that it was a very common pet, but was surprised when she came to know that it was not. In some states, it is illegal to have them.
- A multi-talented individual, Tracy is well versed in playing instruments such as the flute and the piano. She is also a certified diver. She says that whenever she has the opportunity, she gets into the water.

ST. LOUIS — Tracy Hinson is 5 On Your Side’s newest meteorologist and multi-skilled journalist. She is an NWA seal holder and will serve as the weekend morning meteorologist alongside anchor Kelly Jackson, and shoot, write, and edit, general assignment reports during the week.
Tracy joins a weather team whose forecasts have been certified by WeatheRate as the most accurate in town for the second year in a row. WeatheRate is an independent rating service that reviews forecasts from television stations and checks for accuracy.
“I’m excited that my love of weather has landed me in St. Louis,” said Tracy. “While I’m a native of California, my heart is always where the storms are.”
“Tracy brings a lot of energy and a real passion for storm coverage to 5 On Your Side. She loves the incredible variety of weather we see in St. Louis day-to-day,” said Chief Meteorologist Craig Moeller.

Tracy comes to 5 On Your Side from KPTV in Portland, Oregon, where she was a meteorologist and reporter. She previously worked at KSBW in Salinas, California, and WXMI in Grand Rapids, Michigan. St. Louis fortifying the River Des Peres before Monday’s flooding
ksdk.com — FLOODING St. Louis City crews are building a sandbag barrier between homes and the River Des Peres. In St. Louis, the race is on to get a flood barrier put up along the River Des Peres before it crests late Monday night. Crews have a lot of work ahead of them. They’re working 10 to 12 hour days filling 8,000 feet of jumbo sandbags. The hope is to fortify the banks before Monday night when the river crests.
